Transportation and Directions

 Airport

The Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is ~15km south of the UBC campus where the conference is being held. Note that you will clear both Canadian customs (coming into Vancouver) and US Customs (leaving Vancouver) at YVR, so plan accordingly.

YVR to UBC

  1. Head south on Grant McConachie Way and drive over the Arthur Lang Bridge.
  2. Take the Granville Street – City Centre exit.
  3. Turn left on West 70th Avenue. West 70th becomes SW Marine Drive; follow SW Marine Drive for approximately 15 km (10 miles) past 16th Avenue; it will turn into NW Marine Drive.
  4. Continue straight onto Chancellor Boulevard, then turn right onto Westbrook Mall.
  5. Turn right on Iona Drive; Carey Centre will be on your right.

Downtown to UBC

  1. Turn right (West) onto 4th Avenue from the south end of either the Granville or Burrard Street bridges.
  2. Follow 4th Avenue Westbound for approximately 5km (3 miles), until it turns into Chancellor Boulevard.
  3. Follow Chancellor (which becomes NW Marine Drive).
  4. Turn right on Iona Drive. Carey Centre will be on your right. 

Tsawwassen to UBC

  1. Head southwest onto BC-17.
  2. Take ramp to BC-17A to Ladner.
  3. Merge onto BC-99, and keep left to continue on highway.
  4. Take exit 41B for Marine Drive West.
  5. Continue onto Southwest Marine Drive after it becomes Chancellor Boulevard, then turn right onto Wesbrook Mall.
  6. Take a right onto Iona Drive. Carey Centre will be on your right.

Horseshoe Bay to UBC

  1. Head north on Keith Road toward Bay Street, then turn right.
  2. Continue on to eastbound Trans-Canada Highway.
  3. Take exit 13 for BC-99 South toward Vancouver.
  4. Turn right onto Taylor Way/BC-99 South, then turn left onto BC-99 South.
  5. Take the ramp to Bridge Vancouver, and continue onto BC-99.
  6. Turn right onto Howe St/BC-99, and keep left to continue on BC-99.
  7. Turn right onto the 4th Avenue West exit.
  8. Follow 4th Avenue after it turns into Chancellor Boulevard, then turn left onto Wesbrook Mall.
  9. Turn right onto Iona Drive. Carey Centre will be on your right.

 Transit:

There are 3 different transit zones in Vancouver, so fares vary. All buses, and Skytrain rides on weekends and weekdays after 6:30pm, are a single zone fare. Single fares and DayPasses are subject to an additional $5 if purchased at YVR Airport Station or Sea Island Centre Station. Reloadable Compass Cards are available to purchase at ticket vendors in Skytrain Stations for $7. Compass Tickets are available to purchase at Skytrain Stations, Tsawassen and Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminals, Seabus and London Drugs. Paper bus tickets are only valid for bus rides.

*There are two bus loops at UBC. These routes take you to the North Bus Loop. The Trolley Bus Loop, also called the “new” bus loop (5 min. walk from North Bus Loop), is only for busses #4, 14, 9, N17. See UBC Bus Loop Map »

YVR to UBC (1 hr 10 min. transit and walk):

  1. Follow signs to Canada Line Skytrain (YVR Airport Stn.).
  2. Take the Skytrain “Canada Line to Waterfront” (8 stops, 20 min.).
  3. Exit Skytrain at Broadway-City Hall Stn.
  4. Exit station to main road (Cambie st. and West Broadway).
  5. Take the 99 UBC B-Line at stop ID: 58501. The stop is diagonally across from the station, in front of Blenz Coffee.
  6. Ride bus to final stop (UBC Loop, 7 stops, 30 minutes.)

Tsawwassen to UBC (1 hr 23 min. transit and walk)

  1. Follow signs to public transit at the front of the ferry terminal.
  2. Take the 620 Bridgeport Stn. Via Ladner Exchange (17 min., 12 stops).
  3. Get off at the last stop (Bridgeport Stn.), and take the 480 UBC bus at bay 4 to final stop (UBC Loop, 18 stops, 40 min.)

Horseshoe Bay to UBC (1 hr 50 min.)

  1. Follow signs to public transit at the front of the ferry terminal.
  2. Take the 257 Express – Vancouver to Georgia St. and Burrard St. (5 stops, 33 min).
  3. Walk back towards Burrard Street, then turn left. The stop for the 44 UBC will be in front of Tiffany and Co.
  4. Take the 44 to UBC Exchange (10 stops, 30 mins.)

Directions to Musqueam Cultural Pavillion from Carey Centre

Driving (12–18 mins)

  1. Head northeast on Iona Drive toward Wesbrook Mall and turn left onto Chancellor Boulevard, then continue straight on Northwest Marine Drive.
  2. Turn right onto Tamath Crescent, then turn right onto Salish Drive.
  3. Continue straight onto Musqueam Avenue. The Musqueam Cultural Pavillion will be directly ahead.

Transit (45 min. transit and walk)

  1. Board the 41 Joyce Stn. (UBC Exchange Bay 7) or 49 Metrotown Stn. (UBC Exchange Bay 5).
  2. Exit bus at 41st Avenue and Crown Street (8 stops, 16 min).
  3. Walk down Crown Street, then turn right onto Thellaiwhaltun Ave.
  4. Turn right again onto Salish Drive, and continue straight to Musqueam Ave. The Musqueam Cultural Pavillion will be directly ahead.
