Ethnic Concept of Anemia management though unconventional green leafy vegetables by Gond and Korku tribes of Vidarbha region of India˗ Bioprospects

 The massive problem of iron deficiency leading to anemia has spread all over the world. Distribution of iron in seven unconventional leafy vegetables viz. Achyranthes aspera Linn. (kutri), Alternenthera sessilis Br. (patoor bhaji), Amaranthus blitum Woodr. (chavali), Calonyction muricatum (gulcharni), Cassia tora Linn. (tarota), Oxalis corniculata Linn. (ambooti) and Suaedo nudiflora Don. (giria sag) were evaluated and the obtained amount of iron in them were compared with the other conventionally used leaves as vegetables. Future prospects of present work aims for eradicating anemia from the root by increasing consumption of the iron rich green leafy vegetables.
