Places of Interest and local attractions for Ethnobiologists
- Take a walk and discover Montreal’s “Ruelles vertes” or green alleys where one can find hidden community gardens, fruit trees and other interesting plants (i.e. plum trees, apple trees, pear trees, grape vines and hops to name a few). Montreal’s “Ruelles vertes” are community incentives whereby alleyways are greened to accommodate and privilege indigenous plants, bushes and trees. Various green alleys may contain murals, nesting boxes, and even bookshelves complete with books for passerby to grab and go. For a map of these “Ruelles vertes” visit (available in French only): https://www.eco-quartiers.org/cartes

- Guests also often like to walk the winding path up Mont-Royal, the small "mountain" that is a park in the middle of the city. Frederick Law Olmstead designed the park on the mountain, and on nice days, it is joyfully crowded with people walking, biking, having picnics, drumming, walking tightropes and playing in general. It is a great attraction to visit in Montreal. On Sundays beginning at noon, there is a giant drum circle (Tamtam) with many dancers at the statue right at the base of the mountain. http://www.fredericklawolmsted.com/mount.html
- There are varied and wonderful neighbourhoods to visit, all across Montreal, that each offer their own unique flavour. Guests often like to visit the Old Port, the Plateau, Little Italy, the Mile-End, the Ville-Marie, and Little Burgundy. Montreal is a very safe city, but it is necessary that you are mindful about your belongings. Due to the large number of tourists who visit the city every year, theft is a reality.
